You'll Need:
The Lolita Headdress, or one of it's kind. There are so many different kinds out there, but here's one of my versions. I hope you like it, and will make use of the tutorial. :) I am sure, that one day, I will make more different headdresses. But this is my first. Enjoy.
Here you have a picture of the fabric and the different laces and elastic bands I used.
You start out with cutting a piece of fabric - unfortunately I didn't remember to put the measurements here, but I'll write them. 9,5 cm x 27,5 cm. (it's in a later picture. )
Now cut the corners round. If you fold the fabric, you'll get a more symmetrical piece.
Take the bias binding and sew it around the edge. Then you don't have raw edges. If the fabric is very frayed in the edges, I advice you to sew zig-zag at the edges first, then it'll last longer.
I start off with some lace like this. Two pieces, with the raw edge against the middle.
I hold it down (and if you find it difficult to keep them in a straight line, use pins!) and sew with zig-zag in the middle. As yo can see, they overlap - then you only have to sew once.
Then I add the decorative ribbon on top. I've found some nice ribbon, you usually use for furniture, to hide staples and such. Pretty, pretty :).
I used a 3-stitch zig-zag on that on. As long as you use the same colored thread it doesn't really matter what stitches you use.
Now take another piece of lace. It could be any kind, but I've used the same as for the middle. And take an elastic band (5 mm).
Sew the elastic band onto the lace, while stretching it, so the lace wrinkles, like on the picture. You'll need as much to get around the whole headdress, and a bit more for the flower. Approximately 70 - 75 cm.
Just let it overlap, when you reach the biginning of your sewing. As you can see, I have some leftovers. :)
Now take another lace piece, preferably something without a raw edge, since this is used to cover the other lace you just sewed on. And be careful in the rounded corners. You might want to wrinkle the lace a bit, so it won't fold in a weird way.
Now take the leftover piece of lace, with the elastic band, and make a circle with it. In as many layers you like. I only used one, because I will add a ribbon rose. Then sew it in the middle to keep it in place. Cut off excess lace. It should just be the circle.
Put it on top of the headdress, where you want it. Sew a few stitches to hold it in place. (zig-zag with stitch-length 0)
Now take the broader elastic band, and sew onto the sides, as shown. Make sure that it fits your head. If it's too loose, it'll fall out of place all the time, and if it's too tight, it'll hurt after half an hour wearing it. (been there, done that, ouch...)
And here you have the finished product, on my beloved boyfriend, Bjarke, my now co-owner and coder of this website. :)
I don't really think it's his style, though... hehe.
