You'll Need:
I might actually think that a mouse pad is becoming a thing of the past. But I'm using one (because my mouse is crappy), and therefore, I will have a decorated mouse pad. For my own eye pleasure. I think it's a good idea. ;P
An obligatory picture of what you need (or what I've used) - and the white round thing in the middle is the mouse pad... :)
Since the mouse pad was round, I had to figure out a way how to cover up the un-pretty glue, when you glue on the ruffly lace, and what better way to do that than with a ribbon.
You just have to iron the ribbon into shape. I've used a velvet ribbon here, but you can use a sateen ribbon as well. I've done that on my other extremely girly girly decorated mouse pad, which Bjarke didn't want to see on our shared table. Picture at the bottom of the tut. ;P
The shaping of the ribbon was actually a lot easier than I expected, so just go ahead an shape your ribbon. (That is - if your mouse pad is somewhat round.)
And here's the preparation of the so un-prettyly on-glued lace. :)
I am so fortunate to own a 'Pfaff Ruffler' for my Pfaff sewing machine, which often-times makes it a lot easier for me to create tons and tons of ruffles and frills an yummy stuff like that. And so it is in this case. :)
If you do not have one of these you can use this Wrinkle Fabric Basic Tutorial to create beautiful ruffly lace.
Now use your mouse pad as your pattern for cutting our your fabric. Draw it out with tailor chalk or a pen - whatever you see fit, really. :) And cut it out.
And now that you have your things ready, you can start glueing! yaaay, glue!
I've used a glue stick for the main part of the mouse pad to avoid lumpy glue stuff under your fine fabric - which your mouse wouldn't like...
Put on the fabric, and use a glue gun for the edge, so it won't come off, since a glue stick can be somewhat untrustworthy in my opinion. ;P
Glue on your pretty pretty ruffly lace, BUT BEWARE THE HOT HOT GLUE! Don't touch the glue, it'll burn you and it sticks! (I know from experience). You can use a stick of some sort (a pencil perhaps) to press down the lace onto the glue. (I wasn't that clever at the time)
And put a pretty flower on, you've just learned to make here in this Pretty Ribbon Rose Video Tutorial. It's just glued on with the glue gun at the point where the ribbon ends meet. and...
TADAAAA! It's done.
The aforementionted girly girly decorated mouse pad in blue, white and pink *please don't kill me - I DO have a girly girly side...... sorry*
So - good luck with yours - if you still use a mouse pad, that is. ;P
