Bias Binding New Tutorial

You'll Need:

Bias Binding New Tutorial #1 Black Dot

We've made another tutorial on bias binding, but here's a better one (in my opinion), since you can create a longer piece with no fabric spillage. :) (I don't know if that's even a word, but I hope you know what I mean ;P)

I find it really useful to be able to make my own bias tape, when I need it, because it can be hard to find the exact color you want in the ready-made ones.

First thing. Take your piece of fabric. Cut it square, minimum 35 x 35 cm. It doesn't have to be sqaure sqaure, it can be a rectangle as well, as mine. :)

Fold your fabric, so you get a triangle, as shown on the picture.

Cut the fold, and you have 2 pieces of fabric.

Take one piece and transfer it to the other side of the other piece, so the sides are together.

Pin the former sides together as shown - right side against right side.

And this is what you'll have now.

Now start drawing the width of your bias tape. I have a tape maker where the finished bias binding tape width is 1,8 cm, so I'm drawing 4 cm wide strips onto my fabric.

Start on one of the 'new' sides, so you're drawing at a 45 degree from the thread direction.

Here you can see the size of my bias tape maker. I think it's normal to cut a width which is about double the tape maker's size. At least it works for me. :)

Here you can see my finished lines. :) If you have a last piece which is not wide enough, just cut it off. (The last piece on the far left here, for example).

Now start cutting at one corner, but just about 10 cm.

And now comes the fun part - you have to pin the top and bottom together, so the lines you've made fit together. It's very important that you make them fit, so that you'll have a spiral. Which is why we cut at the beginning of one corner. :)

Now you'll have a pretty big amount of ribbon. :)

Take your bias tape maker, and start ironing your ribbon into your new Bias Binding Tape. :D

Tadaa!

See how much bias binding I got from a piece of scrap fabric. :)

I hope yo enjoyed the tutorial. Please comment if you have any questions, and don't forget to share with your crafty friends.
