You'll Need:
Bias binding can be used for many a thing. Often you can use ready made bias tape, but sometimes, it just won't fit in with your fabric or it's too small - and then you'll have to create your own.
Don't worry though, it is super easy.
I've used a bias binding maker, because it makes it a bit easier to make it even. But you don't need one - it's just as easy without one.
Using your protractor, draw lines on your fabric with an angle of 45 degrees. This way, the fabric will be more flexible and it won't 'floss' at the edges. They should be 4-6 cm wide. A 4 cm piece will become a 2 cm wide bias tape, and a 6 cm piece will become a 3 cm bias tape, and so on.
Cut them out.
If you only have a small piece of fabric, cut more, and you can sew them together.
Like this.
Pin the pieces together, right side against right side, as shown on the picture.
Be sure to sew straight following the grain, so you'll have a straight piece of tape.
Iron the 'flaps' to each side and cut off excess fabric – when you see it from the right side, it should be almost invisible. ;P
Now take your bias binding maker (or your ingenuity), and fold the fabric. As shown. You want to make sure the right side is facing outwards.
As you can see, I've ironed the tape, right after it comes out of the bias binding maker. If you're just using your hands, it's easiest to hold the unfolded tape with your left hand (or right, if you're left-handed), and use your thumb and index finger to fold the fabric, while ironing. Just don't burn your fingers, so be careful.
And that's it! You are now a bias binding binder... or ironer... I don't know ;P
